Poms

Poms is a club that begins at the end of October and continues through the beginning of December. Although this activity is not considered a sport, all girls on the squad must attend a tryout in order to be eligible to be on the team. Approximately 20-24 girls are on the squad each year, and the squad meets for practices about three days a week and participates in one home boys basketball game per week as well. The Pom Pons squad is responsible for providing the dancing entertainment during the halftime show, and the girls learn at least two dances throughout the season. This club is a great way for girls in 7th and 8th grade to gain responsibility and leadership skills, as well as gain confidence while working among their peers in a very fun and collaborative setting.

Mead Rotary Prep is an invite only group that works with students who demonstrate great leadership skills in school. We complete service projects throughout the year that the students decide upon. The students also help with the Cancer Walk, Food Pantry, Halloween Dance, and other school sponsored activities. Bocce

Ciao! Did you know that Bocce is the second most played sport in the world, behind only soccer? Started in 5200 B.C. by the Egyptians, banned by the Italian government in 1576, and loved by millions across America, Bocce is one of the most diverse sports you may ever play! Bocce encourages teamwork and skill, while at the same time it can introduce friendships and a general knowledge of a new cultural game.  Please contact Dr. Coy with any questions

Gaelic Football

Gaelic football (commonly referred to as “football” or “Gaelic”) is a form of football played mainly in Ireland. It is, together with hurling, one of the two most popular spectator sports in Ireland.  Gaelic football is played by teams of 15 on a rectangular grass pitch with H-shaped goals at each end. The primary object is to score by kicking or striking the ball with the hand and getting it through the goals. The team with the highest score at the end of the match wins. Players advance the ball up the field with a combination of carrying, soloing (dropping and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands), kicking, and hand-passing to their team-mates.
Gaelic Football is a no-cut club at Mead. A physical is not needed to play and all Mead students are welcome to come out and learn more about the game of Gaelic football. The season begins on November 3rd, and ends on November 21st. Please contact Dr. Coy with any questions.

PingPong and Open Gym

Intramurals is a recreational club that allows students to participate in a variety of activities, including basketball and Ping-Pong.  Students have an opportunity to socialize with their peers, meet new friends, and play sports that they otherwise may not have a chance to partake in.  We provide treats, music, prizes, and a fun atmosphere for the students.  During Ping-Pong intramurals, the students have a chance to match opponents in a Ping-Pong tournament with their friends.   The Ping-Pong intramural dates are December 5th, 6th, and 9th.  During the basketball intramural sessions, students have an opportunity to participate in “Hot Shot” shooting competitions and organize games with friends.  The winter basketball intramural sessions will take place on February 27th, March 1st, and March 2nd, and the spring basketball sessions will take place on May 18th, 21st, and 24th.  If you have any questions about the Ping-Pong Intramurals sessions, please contact Mr. Brian Donlan.  If you have any questions about the basketball sessions, please contact Ms. Elizabeth James.
