What an absolute thrill it has been welcoming our Mustangs back to the building for a fantastic start to the school year. The halls are buzzing with energy, and our students have hit the ground running. From navigating their schedules and getting to class on time to mastering those tricky lockers, they have adjusted wonderfully and are already doing an incredible job. We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the families who joined us last night for Curriculum Night. Connecting with you, sharing what makes Mead so special, and introducing our dedicated staff made for a fabulous evening. Your involvement and enthusiasm are so important to us. Students can purchase pizza at lunch for $3 a slice on Tuesdays and Fridays at Mead. Our first pizza day will be Tuesday, August 25th. There is no pre-ordering and only cash will be accepted on pizza days. Students can also purchase concessions during lunch periods starting Tuesday, August 25th. Concessions are sold daily and all items are $1-2. All sales are cash only. |
Girl's Basketball: Sign up is open on the Infinite Campus Portal. Your daughter MUST have an up-to-date physical on file in order to tryout. 8th grade tryouts are on Monday, August 24 from 2:30-5:00 7th grade tryouts are on Tuesday, August 25 from 2:30-5:00 Any questions, please see Ms. Gerlinger or Mr. Bautista! Cross Country: Whether you're an experienced runner or trying the sport for the very first time, everyone is welcome. If you're willing to run, we'll help you improve, fall in love with the "first" sport, compete, and have a ton of fun along the way. Athletic Fee for the 2026-27 School Year: With fall sports starting shortly after we return to school, I wanted to remind families that District 54 will be charging an athletic participation fee this year to students participating in sports to cover a portion of the costs of uniforms, transportation, officials, supplies and equipment and coach stipends. The fee would be $50 for one sport, $40 for a second sport and $30 if a student were to participate in a third sport this school year. The fee will appear in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal after a student has been rostered to a team. |
Medication at School: To ensure the health and safety of all students, our school has a strict policy regarding the administration of medication during school hours. If your child needs to take prescription or over-the-counter medication while at school, please follow these requirements:
For the safety of all students, no over the counter medication should be carried by a student, unless indicated in their specific Care Plan and doctor’s orders and reviewed by the school Nurse. The school does not stock any medications to be given to students. Therefore, if your child should need any medication during the school day, please follow this process in order to have medication at school for your child.
Care Plans: If your child has any medical condition that requires specific care or treatment while attending school, a physician care plan which includes documentation and instructions should be sent to the school nurse. Conditions include Asthma, Allergies, Seizures, Diabetes. etc. If there is medication that is indicated in the doctor’s documentation that must be brought in by a parent/guardian along with the district medication form. Both the Care Plan and medication will be reviewed and appropriate communication will be provided to your child’s teacher. The medical condition/Care Plan materials were mailed at the end of last school year and can be brought in when school starts. Our annual Mead Night @ Boomer's will be on Friday August, 28 starting at 6:30pm. Our very own Mead Choir will be performing the National Anthem before the game starts. There is a post-game firework show as well. A portion of each ticket will be donated back to support the Mead Choir program. |

If your child doesn’t want the featured meal, no problem - you can still order just a Blizzard so they can join in on the fun! Order by Sunday August 23rd. Join the District 54 Education Foundation and School District 54 at the 22nd annual Run to Read on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Dirksen School. This event will include a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile walk and children’s races. All proceeds will support financially struggling District 54 families. Register for the 2026 Run to Read by August 28 to get early bird pricing. |
On Monday, August 24th we will test seventh and eighth grade students using the computer-based MAP assessments tool. The purpose of MAP Growth (K-8) is to inform teachers of the immediate instructional needs of students. MAP results equip educators with key data to help personalize instruction and pinpoint individual student needs. Please note that MAP has updated their national norms in 2025 so you may see some variance in your student’s national percentile rank compared to your student’s past MAP assessments. Students will take both the reading and math MAP assessments on August, 24th. |
You are invited to join us at the Schaumburg District 54 Professional Learning Center (522 E. Schaumburg Rd. - DOOR C1) from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16 as District 54's Multicultural Parent Advisory Council presents a session for parents on “The Key to Success for English Learners in District 54." During the meeting we will review how English Learners are identified in District 54 and discuss the information that ACCESS scores provide regarding your student's learning. We will also share tips for creating a partnership with your students’ teachers, review the Evidence Based Funding in District 54, and explain how support is provided for multilingual learners. Interpreters will be available. To sign up for the session, please complete the registration form by Monday, Sept. 14.
