Greetings Mead Community,
 
Welcome to this week’s edition of the Mead Minute. Before you dive into the details of our newsletter, please note the upcoming deadlines and dates below:
 
  • Yearbook Orders are Due TODAY! If you haven’t already secured a copy of this year’s memories, please make sure to place your order by the end of the day today. We don’t want any students to miss out, details are below.
 
  • No School Tuesday, March 17th: Just a quick reminder for your calendars that classes will not be in session this upcoming Tuesday.
 
  • No Late Buses on March 20th: Please be aware that there are no after-school activities scheduled for Friday, March 20th. As a result there will be no late buses running that afternoon. Please make sure your students have standard transportation home at the regular dismissal time.

Don’t Forget the Yearbook!

Don’t miss out on preserving this year’s special memories! Upcoming Dental Clinics

The Dental Institute in Downers Grove 
The Dental Institute in Downers Grove is hosting a free dental clinic on March 21st for kids 5-15 y/o. Must call to register: 630.743.4500
 
Smile Illinois-Mobile Dentist
We are pleased to have Smile Illinois-Mobile Dentists return to Mead Jr. High. The dental team will be coming on 4/10/26 to provide exams, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants. Only students who register will be seen by the dentist. The dental clinic accepts Medicaid, private insurance or for those with no insurance, a flat rate payment of $70. Track and Field

Track and Field — the largest and fastest sport at Mead — kicks off Monday, March 30 and will run through May 15! Whether you run distance, sprint, jump, throw, or cheer on your teammates, there’s a place for you. Sign up through Infinite Campus, portal is open Monday Feb. 23 – Friday April 10th. Directions are available using the link below.

PTA News

Bagels with Buddies 4/10

We are excited to invite the special grownups in our students’ lives to join us in the gymnasium on Friday, April 10th from 7:00-7:30am for our annual Bagels with Buddies! Start your day with a light breakfast of Starbucks coffee, fresh fruit, and of course, bagels.
 
We also encourage attendees to bring a donation to the Stevenson Food Pantry. Currently, the food pantry is in need of:
  • Slim Jims
  • Cans of fruit/ fruit cups
  • Applesauce
  • Ramen
  • Goldfish
  • Individual packs of snacks (popcorn, pretzels, cheese crackers)
  • Conditioner
  • Body Soap  
Last, a few volunteers are needed to help us with event prep, setup and teardown. If you’re available, you can sign up below.

Current Mead and Incoming PTA Members

As we look ahead to the next school year, we are reaching out to see if anyone is interested in running for a board position or a committee for the 2026/2027 school year. Serving through the PTA is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our school community, support students and teachers, and help shape the future of Mead!
 
If you are interested in running for a position, please complete this form no later than March 29th. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to collaborate and contribute to our school community!

Support the 8th Grade “Hollywood Glam” Dance

Planning continues and we truly need the support of our 7th grade parents! Your help with planning and setting up for the dance allows 8th grade parents to step away and fully enjoy the special moments leading up to this big event.  Interested? PTA Elementary Scholarships

District 54 students in kindergarten through seventh grade who will be attending a summer camp or program can apply for the STC PTA Elementary Scholarship. In order to receive the $150 scholarship, a household member must be a member of the PTA at the student’s school. In addition, the camp or program must be noncommercial, nonsectarian and nonpartisan. 
 
The applications and more information are available on the STC Website. Applications are due by April 10. Contact the scholarship chair at our school or email [email protected] for any questions.

District 54 News

Multilingual Parent Advisory Council (MPAC)

Are you a parent/caregiver of an English language learner in District 54? You are invited to join our MPAC (Multilingual Parent Advisory Council) Meeting on Wednesday, April 8th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Schaumburg School District 54 Professional Learning Center (524 E. Schaumburg Road; Door C1) to discuss summer enrichment activities and how to celebrate and maintain your home language as your child continues to grow in English language proficiency.
 
During our time together, we will be joined by staff and families in District 54 to share their stories of how they supported their children learning English while also providing opportunities for their children to preserve their home language. We will also share information about ideas for summer enrichment activities.
 
Interpretation will be available in Spanish, Japanese, Ukrainian, and Russian.
