Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is hard to believe that we are already starting the process to transition your student to Margaret Mead Junior High School!  At Mead, we know the transition to junior high potentially comes with excitement and anxiety.  Therefore, we take great care in ensuring your student is ready for his/her move to Mead before they even arrive for their first day in August.  One of the first steps in this process is our Future Mustang Family Presentation that will be available for you to view on Friday, December 4, 2020.  The purpose of this presentation is to familiarize you and your student with Mead’s curriculum, Mead’s school improvement plan, and student activities offered at Mead Junior High School.  We will also review the procedure for requesting elective classes as part of your student’s academic programming for next school year.  On Friday, December 4, 2020, we will email you a link to the Future Mustang Family Presentation to be watched at a time convenient for your family.  We suggest watching the presentation prior to requesting your student’s elective classes because the video contains information about each of our elective class offerings.

As part of preparing your future Mustang for junior high school, your student will also be viewing in their sixth grade class a special video about life at Mead.  In addition, Mrs. Carey, our assistant principal, and I will be visiting your student’s sixth grade class via Zoom to answer their questions.  During our Zoom visits, we will talk with your student about the elective offerings and request process.  The elective course request process for seventh grade is very important.  Different this school year, you will submit your student’s elective class request on a Google Form.  Please look for the link to this Google Form on Friday, December 4, 2020 to be completed and submitted by Friday, December 11, 2020.

Please mark your calendars for a great event for your soon-to-be Mustang in the spring at Mead.  Mead will be sponsoring a sixth grade “Welcome to Mead Night” on April 30, 2021 for all incoming seventh grade students to help your child with the transition from elementary to junior high.  This is a special event for students only!

Please see below for the timeline of important upcoming dates regarding your student’s transition to Mead:

  • Week of November 30: Your student’s sixth grade teacher will be showing your future Mustang a video that highlights life at Mead.  As a follow-up, Mrs. Carey and I will be visiting your student’s sixth grade classroom via Zoom to answer any questions they may have.
  • Friday, December 4:  Please check your email inbox for an email message from me that will contain two important links:
    • Future Mustang Family Presentation video
    • 7th Grade Elective Class Request 2021-2022
  • Starting Friday, December 4:  Please watch the Future Mustang Family Presentation video and then complete and submit your student’s 7th Grade Elective Class Request for 2021-2022
  • Friday, December 11:  Please complete and submit your student’s 7th grade Elective Class Request for 2021-2022 by the end of the day.

The transition to junior high school is a very exciting and important time for your sixth grade student.  As he/she begins this new phase of their educational career, it is vital that a good beginning is assured.  Our work over the next month will assist with this key first step.  I look forward to starting a partnership with you to ensure your child’s success at Mead!
