Greetings Margaret Mead Community,

We hope that our Mustangs are having a wonderful day off from school and that many of them were able to participate in the D54 Dot Day!  Yesterday morning, the Mead staff “made our mark” wrote our Mustangs chalk messages on the sidewalks around Mead—included in these messages was each student’s personal “One Word” that they came up with in Advocacy during our opening week of school!  Please check our Facebook and Twitter accounts to see these pictures!  If your family is able, please come and walk around the sidewalk by Mead (make sure you are maintaining social distance!) and see the Mead Made messages from your child’s teachers!  Please see below for important updates from our PTA and other important upcoming reminders.

PTA:  Our PTA strives to provide the Mead community with wonderful opportunities to become involved, whether that is with “Donuts with Dad”, “Muffins with Mom”, or providing a memorable eighth grade dance. All of these types of activities are available for your family because of the fundraising we are normally able to do through our PTA Hot Lunch program.  Unfortunately, given our current situation, we are unable to offer that program currently.  So, the PTA has come up with several other ways to raise funds to benefit our Mead Mustangs:

  • Dine to Donate: The PTA will be offering “Dine to Donate” nights at local restaurants weekly.  You will just need to bring the flyer that is emailed weekly or mention Mead when ordering over the phone (or type in Mead if ordering online).  Please consider dining or picking up from these restaurants on these dates to help Mead.  We hope to see you this coming Monday at Coach’s Corner.  The restaurants for September are as follows:
    • Monday, September 21: Lou Malnati’s
    • Monday, September 28: Buona Beef
  • Monthly Fundraisers:  The PTA will also be hosting monthly fundraisers to go along with our “Dine to Donate” fundraiser.  For the month of September, we will be a tie-dye long sleeve Mead shirt that we hope to see both teachers and students rocking soon on Zoom! More information to come on the t-shirts next week.
  • Amazon Smile:  Amazon offers a free opportunity to turn your normal purchases into a source of donations for our Mead PTA.  With the COVID situation, we need to find ways to raise funds for the PTA – which in turn works for your children, school and community. Here is a very simple and free method to raise funds without any work.  Most of us, and including our friends and families are using Amazon for our online purchases. Amazon has a program that donates 0.5% of all your purchases to a charity of your choice – at NO COST to you. We would like to request you and your friends to please set this up as soon as possible before you make any more purchases at Amazon. All you have to do is to (1) use or change your Amazon app setting to use Amazon Smile and (2) Select “Margaret Mead Jr High School PTA” as the charity  Let’s see how much Amazon can share with us over this academic year.  Please see the attached document here  for specific instructions on this setup, and a link to Amazon’s website that describes the program in more detail if you like.
  • Become a Member!  As evidenced above, the Mead PTA is planning on an incredible year. Another way to contribute to PTA is to register as an official Mead PTA member by clicking the link here:  Please visit the Mead PTA Facebook page for more information about our fantastic parent organization!

V-Mead Bell Schedule:  Our Mustangs successfully completed our “First 15-Day Connect” program and will now start their days in first period moving forward.  Please note that first period (early start) mathematics students will begin their days at 7:30 am.  I have included our bell schedule below for your reference.  In addition, we sent this same bell schedule to our Mustangs this week.

Fall Conferences on October 8 and 9:  We look forward to connecting with you at our upcoming student conferences on Thursday, October 8, and Friday, October 9.  More information to come regarding our conference format this school year.

Eighth Grade High School Transition: District 211 has posted some basic information including information about their course placement process on their website at Class of 2025 Incoming Freshman Information Page
