Mead Fall Conferences

Greetings Margaret Mead Families,

It was great seeing many of you at Curriculum Night last week!  We look forward to you joining us at our upcoming student goal-setting conferences on Thursday, October 10, and Friday, October 11.  Over the course of the next few weeks, your child will be meeting with their teachers to set their High Student Achievement and Positive School Culture goals for the school year.  We are proud of our students for taking the time to commit themselves to setting their goals and then sharing them with you on October 10 and 11.  Through the facilitation of student goal-setting conferences, our goals are to encourage students to accept personal responsibility for their academic performance and social conduct, teach students the critical process of goal-setting, and to improve students’ organizational and oral communication skills and self-confidence.

I want to bring to your attention that we have streamlined our student goal-setting conference process this school year.  Different than year’s past, you are no longer required to sign-up on-line for your child’s conference time.  Instead, we will run an “open campus” schedule for our student goal-setting conferences.  This format is intended to allow you to attend conferences when it is most convenient for your family.  Please read below about the new format to follow for your child’s student goal-setting conference:

  • SEVENTH GRADE student goal-setting conferences will be held in the Cafeteria on Thursday, October 10 from 12:00-4:15 pm and 5:15-8:15 pm and on Friday, October 11 from 7:30-9:30 am.  You are welcome to attend anytime during these hours.  Different from elementary school, there are no scheduled times.  This allows you to attend conferences during a time that works for your schedule!  Please follow these steps to conduct your child’s student goal-setting conferences:
  1. Prior to your child’s student goal-setting conferences, please ensure they bring their Chromebook to their conference.  They will be using their Chromebook to share their personal academic and cultural goals, work samples from all classes, and 1st trimester mid-term grades on their student portal.
  2. When you arrive for your child’s student goal-setting conferences, please proceed to the Cafeteria to find a seat at a table.
  3. After taking a seat, your child will then begin their student goal-setting conference serving as the facilitator.
  4. Following your child’s student goal-setting conference, the teachers will be available to conduct individual conferences related to your child’s progress in a specific subject area.  During the individual conference portion of the event, we ask that you please limit your individual conference to five minutes out of respect for other parents.  All teachers will be located in their classrooms and available to conference with you when you arrive to their classroom.  If the teacher is meeting with another family, then please wait outside the teacher’s room until they are available; because we are asking that families limit their individual conferences to five minutes, the teachers will be able to meet with all families that come to their classrooms.
  • EIGHTH GRADE student goal-setting conferences will be held in the Creation Studio (formerly the LRC upstairs on the second floor) on Thursday, October 10 from 12:00-4:15 pm and 5:15-8:15 pm and on Friday, October 11 from 7:30-9:30 am.  You are welcome to attend anytime during these hours.  Different from last year, there are no scheduled times.  This allows you to attend conferences during a time that works for your schedule!  Please follow these steps to conduct your child’s student goal-setting conferences:

Please contact me if you have any questions about the student goal-setting conferences.  Thank you for supporting your child’s education and we look forward to seeing you at conferences in October!

Sincerely,

M. Scott Ross
