Mead Weekly Update 01/11

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope that the break provided you and your family time to enjoy the holiday season or at least some of the nicer weather. On Monday, we welcomed the students back to Mead with our annual New Year’s celebration to start the day. This all-school gathering allowed us to come together and to reflect on the year and make some resolutions to make the rest of the year a successful one. Additionally, we had a guest speaker address the students today on the topic of online and digital safety. Please continue to partner with us and ensure that your our students are safe and responsible with their online and social media interactions.

Though it has only been one week, our staff and students have returned to our daily routine and we are excited to continue our work together. It is a great time to reflect on the successes from the year so far and to recognize the potential of the year yet to come. Looking forward to a positive and productive 2019!!

5Essentials Survey Update

All District 54 parents are encouraged to take the Illinois State Board of Education’s 5Essentials Survey  at
https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois. The parent survey is only 26 questions will allow parents to share their thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness and help us guide school improvement. The parent survey will be available online through Feb. 15 2019.

Snow and Ice Removal
As we start this year’s snow and cold weather preparation, we wanted to reach out and remind everyone that the District 54 does plow some easements up to the buildings. Parents and students use walking routes to and from school; however, we do not salt the easements. For the most part they are on park district property.  Please be safe when walking to and from school.

Health Reminders
Cold and flu season is here! In order to help keep all of our Mead students and staff healthy, please follow these helpful guidelines:

  • If your child is vomiting, having diarrhea, or has a fever of 100 or higher, he/she should not come to school.
  • If a student is at school and these symptoms occur, you will receive a call from our school nurse to pick up your child from school.
  • Students need to remain at home for at least 24 hours after they stop vomiting or having diarrhea and are fever-free without using any fever-reducing medicines.

Please remember to notify the office (847-357-6068) each day your child is absent.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Student-Led Conferences
Please join us on February 14-15, 2019 for student-led conferences at Mead. During these conferences, your child will have an opportunity to share with you his/her academic progress and personal growth. Students should bring their Chromebooks with them to conferences as they will be used to facilitate the student-led portion of the conference. You will then have an opportunity to meet briefly with all of your student’s teachers individually.

Sign-up for these conferences will again be conducted electronically through a link that will be sent out to parents in late January.
