Welcome to Mead’s Website

Welcome to Margaret Mead Junior High’s website.

I am pleased to share information with you about our school through this website.  Our school is committed to educating children academically,
emotionally, and socially.

Our staff is consistently striving to meet the needsof ALL our students. Differentiation is a part of all our academic efforts.  The process of differentiation is one way to meet the individual needs of all our students; this process challenges us to think about our instructional approaches.  As a result, special intervention programs are in place to close the achievement gap of struggling students, while those students who are at or above grade level take advantage of accelerated or enriching opportunities to expand learning in various content areas.

Strong academic achievement is a priority for the entire Margaret Mead learning community.  Our students are exposed to a number of learning opportunities, such as reading instruction through a balanced literacy approach and a wide range of extracurricular activities to encourage the
development of well-rounded students. Mead Junior High sponsors more than two dozen clubs/activities, which help enhance our students’ school experiences.  This past year our sports and clubs were very successful and brought home the following recognitions:

We are excited to see the results of our efforts, as reflected in the academic improvement our students have achieved on state testing over the last three years, earning the Illinois Academic Excellence Award in 2008.  During our most recent testing on the 2011 spring state testing, over 95% of our students in grades 7 and 8 met or exceeded state standards on the ISAT tests in reading and mathematics. The official ISAT School Report Card will be posted in October on this website.  We welcome you to peruse this report to see the actual progress our students are making at Margaret Mead.

In order to promote a learning partnership between the Mead staff and community, our PTA provides many entertaining and exciting events: for the students—Pizza Tuesdays, Hot Lunch Thursdays, Author visits, Motivational Speakers, Reading Incentive Programs, Science Olympiad; for the staff: Teacher Appreciation Week; for the community—Family Dinner Nights, and a number of other events at night for parents and students.

We are proud of our students, staff, and school and I look forward to celebrating our successes throughout the school year!  If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding Margaret Mead Junior High, please contact me.  I am always delighted to talk with you!

Go Mustangs!
