Interscholastic Sports

It is the philosophy of the District 54 interscholastic program to provide a variety of opportunities to teach values in a competitive atmosphere while enhancing total fitness and character through organized activities.  District 54 believes that interscholastic activities are an integral part of the educational process
and allow for the development of skills in both group and individual experiences.  The District believes
that students participating in interscholastic sports will embrace the expectations of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) during their school hours and in their community at large.

Physical examinations for students participating in interscholastic sports:

Board policy JHCE states:  Physical examinations will be required for any student to tryout for a team and participation in scheduled team practice or competition.  A complete physical examination by a licensed physician, advanced practical nurse or physician assistant will cover a period of one (1) year from the date of examination.  A student’s physical must be completed with proper forms and must be submitted to the school nurse.  Only students who have successfully and properly completed the physical examination will be permitted to tryout or participate in interscholastic sports.

Cross Country (August – October)

Cross Country is a sport offered to both 7th and 8th grade boys and girls during the fall of each school year.  Four days a week the athletes come to practice to run various distances throughout the neighborhood as well as on school grounds.  The teams compete against the four other District 54 teams at least two times in a season both home and away.  At the end of the season come mid-October, the Conference Championships are held at Hoover Elementary School.  The top ten runners from each grade level and gender are deemed All-Conference runners and receive medals at an awards ceremony. The winning teams from each gender and grade level also receive a plaque to be displayed in their school’s trophy case.   Cross Country is a great sport to get involved in at any level.  All the coaches are dedicated to running, fitness, and providing everyone with a positive experience.

Practices are held generally on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with meets dispersed as evenly as possible throughout the season.  To receive more information about Cross Country please contact any of the four coaches.
