Advocacy

What is Advocacy?

Advocacy is a way to create a more personalized learning environment where your child is well known by at least one faculty member.  Advocacy will be a time when we can individually monitor and support your student’s academic and social/emotional growth while at Mead. Your student will meet in Advocacy once a week every Wednesday for 20 minutes following ninth period.  Each Advocacy class will have no more than 15 students per teacher to ensure more personal attention.  During Advocacy time, teachers and students will be working on:

  • MAP Goal-Setting
  • PBIS Goal-Setting
  • PBIS Lessons
  • ISAT/MAP Prep Work

Your student’s Advocacy teacher will be the keeper of your student’s Advocacy Folder, which will contain MAP Reading and Math Student Progress Reports, Reading and Math Student Goal Setting sheets, PBIS Goal Setting sheets, Reading and Math RIT Scores sheets, and midterm report cards.  Additionally, in a collaborative effort to keep your student focused on learning, the Advocacy teacher may be contacting you if behavior becomes a concern.  In short, your student will have an advocate on staff.
