Mead Update- January 6th

Posted Friday, January 6th, 2012 by phannigan

Dear Mead Community,

I hope everyone is having a great week.  I would like to inform you that Red Ribbon Week is coming to Mead next week!  Red Ribbon Week is a national celebration dedicated to drug awareness and prevention in schools.  To promote drug awareness at Mead, we will kick off our celebration on Monday, January 9th with special public service announcements from our Interact students and a red bracelet for each student to wear showing their commitment to living a drug free life.

During lunch time all students will have the opportunity to take a pledge by thumb printing a banner that will be displayed in the cafeteria.  Your child will also be awarded with red candy during lunch for showing their spirit and wearing their bracelets.   The weeklong celebration will end with an assembly by motivational speaker, Steve Troglio.  He is the founder and director of Teen Reach, a company founded on sharing a life changing, hope filled message to teens, young adults, parents, teachers, law enforcement officials, and business corporations all across the country.  For more information on Steve, you can visit his website at http://www.teenreachinc.org/.

Finally, for spirit week, please encourage your child to wear the following:

Monday-  Put your thinking hat on, hats off to drugs!

Tuesday-  Team up against drugs!  Wear your favorite team apparel.

Wednesday-  Sock it to drugs!  Wear crazy socks to school.

Thursday-  Wear Red Day for the morning assembly.

Enjoy this beautiful weather and we look forward to seeing you next week at conferences!

Mead Update- January 3rd

Posted Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012 by phannigan

Dear Mead Community,

We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing winter break.  At this time, we are preparing for our winter conferences and are eager to have your students share their academic and behavioral goals with you during Student-Led Conferences.  We will welcome students and their parents to Mead during the afternoon and evening of Thursday, January 12th and the morning of Friday, January 13th.

During the Student-Led Conference portion of the event, your son/daughter will share his/her Winter MAP scores, academic goals, and behavioral goals with you.  There will be three to four conferences occurring at the same time and in the same location with your student’s Advocacy teacher serving as the facilitator. Following the fifteen minute student-led conference, all teachers will report back to their home room and will be available to conduct individual conferencesrelated to your student’s progress in a specific subject area.  This opportunity to touch base with your student’s teachers will also include the option to confer with his/her core teachers and encore/elective teachers in their designated locations.  During the individual conference portion of the event, we ask that you please limit your individual conference to five to ten minutes out of respect for other parents.

All families should be receiving a Student-Led Conference confirmation letter in the mail this week.  If you do not receive this letter or if there is a conflict with your scheduled conference, please contact Mrs. Caby in our office at 357-6000.  Finally, below is the schedule we will be following on January 12th and January 13th.

Thank you for supporting your student’s education and we look forward to seeing all of our Mead families represented at conferences.
