Mead Update 12/9/11

Posted Friday, December 9th, 2011 by phannigan

Dear Mead Community,

I hope everyone is having a great week.  It is hard to believe winter break is upon us.
I would like to bring to your attention that next week, Friday, we will be running an adjusted schedule.  Please note that seventh and eighth grade lunches are switching for Friday, December 16 only.  The eighth grade lunch will be from 10:38-11:18 and the seventh grade lunch will be from 11:21-12:01.  Also, we will be selling Jamba Juice treats for two dollars apiece during the lunch hours. If you have any questions please let us know.

Finally, on Friday, December 16, students in eighth grade will be receiving a School
District 211 Curriculum Guide for 2011 – 2012 and a Freshman Course Selection
Sheet. Please ask your eighth grade child to share these items with you so you can fill them out together. In the first week of January, District 211 will be sending you the results of the explore test and you will use the results of this test to choose the appropriate level of classes on the Freshman Course Selection Sheet. After you have filled out the Freshman Course Selection Sheet you must return it to your child’s District 211 High School that he/she will be attending by January 20, 2012. If you have any questions please contact the District 211 High School that your child will be attending or the Mead Guidance Dept.

Regards,

PeteHannigan,

Principal

December Mead Update

Posted Friday, December 2nd, 2011 by phannigan

Dear Mead Community,

I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend.  After a very
successful first trimester for reducing tardies with PBIS, we are ready to announce our goal for second trimester. The PBIS Universal Team has decided to concentrate on reducing the number of referrals for disruption and insubordination.

During the month of November, Mead had 101 referrals for disruption and 90 for insubordination. A disruption referral will be given to a student for talking out of turn or causing a general disturbance. Insubordination refers to a student being defiant to an adult in the building. During an advocacy lesson, the students learned that defiance means a daring or bold resistance to authority. By using the data
from November, the PBIS team calculated approximately how many disruption and insubordination referrals would be given by the end of the trimester, March 16th. The team goal is to reduce the number of referrals projected during the second trimester for disruption or disrespect by 20%. If the students can reach this goal, we will participate in a staff vs. student basketball game. Please have a conversation with your child about PBIS events going on in the school.

Finally, please visit the calendar section of the Mead website http://mead.sd54.org/events/  for the updated building calendar for the month of December.  As always, if you have any questions regarding our instructional program please feel free to contact us.

Have a great weekend.
